What can I do

I have been suckered into buying leads from some of these guys but it never works for me. Then I a salesman comes to work for me from a dealer down the street and tells me that they use leads from !@#$$$% and they were selling cars left and right. I just don't get it. What can I do to make this work for me?

Thank you for your question. Since I don't know much about you or your dealership this is a difficult question to answer. In basic terms the biggest problem I have seen at most dealerships where leads don't work is the process. I will be writing an article on best practices for working auto leads and will be asking for dealer feedback. Please check in soon and look for "Best Practices" section that will be added to our website in Feb 2009.

Lead Sources

Where do these leads really come from? I do my own advertising and get no where near the volume as these guys.

Thank you for your question. Most likely you have gone the route of Pay-Per-Click and SEO for your online marketing. These two types of marketing only focus on one aspect of online marketing, (search). This means that the consumer must be searching for a term related to your site or a term you are paying to advertise on the get a chance that they might click through then a chance that they might fill out an application. When you work out all the numbers this works for some and not for others. There is so much more to online marketing that many lead providers tap into such as list building, email marketing, banner ads, affiliate networking, content advertising, plus many more. Many of these programs are only available to large advertisers on a national level making it difficult for a local dealer to do this type of advertising but there are companies that are bringing these marketing stratagies to a local level.

Good Credit Customers

Why can't I get "good credit" customers from any of these online lead generators?
Anonymous from CA
Thank you for your question. The simple fact is that most people that apply with lead providers on the internet for "auto financing" have bad credit. The reason for this is the fact the people with good credit tend to deal with banks, credit unions, and dealers directly. The service that most of the lead providers provide to consumers is "help" finding auto financing when it is difficult for the consumer to find it on their own, usually because of credit problems.

Duplicate Leads

I am currently using several lead providers, and I notice that a lot of the time I get the same lead from all my providers, usually within a few minutes of each other. Mainly, I'm most concerned about these providers doing bad things and reselling my leads to each other. Is this a common problem and what is being done to stop it?
Anonymous from CA
Thank you for your question. This is a very big concern for many end users of leads. There could be many factors at issue here, and I will try to discuss a few major ones here. The first issue is the lead itself, or the customer. Today's shopper is not as loyal as we would hope, and they will shop around quite frequently. One major cause of duplicate leads is the fact that customers will put their information into several websites, which would explain why organic leads end up being duplicated. This is typically the most common reason for duplicates between the providers. However, there are some providers out there that do not honor the privacy of their customers and the value of their end users. An effort between the major providers has helped in curbing this problem, but is a difficult effort to keep under control. The problem is that you have a large group of fly-by-night providers that are trying to turn a quick profit before they get weeded out with their unethical practices of reselling leads. Your best bet is to steer clear of unproven providers. This site should be a great resource for your to see who is the most reliable and ethical. Check the ratings and make your best judgment call from there.
